Congratulations to Dr. Harpreet Singh Kochhar, one of IndoCanada Ottawa Business Chamber's Advisory Board Member, on his appointment as President of the Public Health Agency of Canada earlier this year.
Before joining Public Health Agency of Canada | Agence de la santé publique du Canada, Dr. Kochhar served as Assistant Deputy Minister of the Operations Sector for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada / Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada, (IRCC) where he led the delivery of the Immigration, Citizenship and Passport programs across Canada and at missions and offices abroad.
He was also responsible for the implementation of key strategic projects for IRCC, including the Passport Modernization Initiative, Predictive Analytics, and the transformation of IRCC's operational delivery model.
Dr. Harpreet Singh Kochhar is an accomplished academic and has assumed a number of prestigious roles within the Canada Public Service.
He received his doctoral studies (Ph.D.) in Biotechnology from the University of Guelph in 1995.
He also held the position of Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) for Canada.
He is an expert on animal biotechnology for the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and has worked internationally with such organizations as the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
His achievements have been well acknowledged through the presentation of various public service awards and he is also a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Award in 2012.
